About | Syed Yaqeen
a visual-storyteller
Syed Yaqeen is a Bangladeshi-born American documentary and editorial photographer. Growing up in Queens, NY, he brings over 15 years of professional experience to his storytelling practice. Syed began his career in editorial and fashion photography, later expanding into documentary work and nonprofit media in 2018. His work has consistently focused on stories that drive social impact, including documenting emergency medical team in Nepal, creating portraits for ISPU’s “Muslims for American Progress” project, and capturing the work of NYC nonprofits supporting vulnerable communities during the pandemic.
Syed’s portrait work has earned him solo exhibitions at the NYPL Mulberry St, Rutgers University, and the Ford Performing Arts Center, among others. His editorial work has been recognized by Peerspace as one of NYC’s “Best 10 Editorial Photographers,” and his images have been featured in numerous publications and public installations.
He is the founder of American Muslim Experience (AME), which has grown from a long-term photo-documentary into a nonprofit media production house. AME creates educational multimedia storytelling projects that challenge stereotypes, amplify underrepresented voices, and build cultural understanding—especially around American Muslim life. AME's work has been showcased at the Photoville Festival and other national venues.
Syed works with nonprofits and mission-driven organizations to craft organizational narratives. In addition to his documentary work, Syed serves as a creative director and producer, helping fellow photographers bring complex visual projects to life. He is also a picture editor and instructor with Momenta Workshops, where he shares his passion for collaborative, ethical storytelling and visual education.
