American Muslim Experience
a longterm photo-documentary project by Syed Yaqeen
American Muslim Experience is my ongoing documentary photography project about the lives of Muslims in the United States.
I created this project to make space for a fuller and more honest visual record of American Muslim life. Through portraits, conversations, recorded interviews, and documentary images, I am photographing people across backgrounds, generations, and communities with attention to everyday life, identity, faith, family, work, and belonging.
Interested in being a part of this project?
I am currently looking to connect with American Muslims who may want to participate, share part of their story, or recommend someone I should speak with.
Participation may include a conversation, a recorded interview, a portrait session, documentary photographs, or some combination of these, depending on the story and what feels appropriate. In some cases, parts of an interview may be included in the final presentation, often as notes, excerpts, or supporting context alongside the images.
You do not need to have a dramatic story or public profile to participate. I am interested in the depth, dignity, and complexity of everyday life as much as major life experiences.
